Mr Price from Nottingham wanted to improve his property with a beautiful new lean to conservatory. He contacted Extend a Room, and soon this charming upvc lean to conservatory was installed at his home in Nottingham.
The challenge
As ever with any new conservatory, serious design consideration has to be given to make sure the new sunroom fits in well with the existing home, and its surroundings. Extend a Room can call upon the experience gained from fitting many thousands of conservatories not just in Nottingham, but all over the UK. As with most customers, Mr Price wanted to attach his new lean to conservatory to his property at the back.
However, close inspection revealed that there was a challenge to siting the new sunroom outside the kitchen at the back – the main power cable for the property was running down the external wall!
Finally, at ground level there was a gulley drain from the kitchen beside the external main power cable.
The solution
The surveyor needed to gather accurate sizes of the wall and cables before he could work out which lean to conservatory he could design. The plan in the end had to work around the restrictions. Could it be done?
Enter Extend a Room’s unique steel base system; perfect for this installation. The traditional building method of pouring concrete into deeply dug foundations and covering all beneath would have been no use here. The way the steel conservatory base is constructed on a gridwork pattern allows the underground pipe work and drains to remain in place, and easily accessible forever, beneath the insulated flooring of the sunroom. This saves a great deal of time and money, and guarantees easy future access to pipework, drains and electrics should the need arise.
Once the base was installed, the fitters could quickly get on with putting the frames in, and finally the lean to conservatory roof.
Finally, drainage from the new sunroom couldn’t be directed to the kitchen waste, so a water butt was required. This excellent solution is ideal, especially in parts of the country with hosepipe bans. The rainwater can then be recycled to water the garden.
The result
Mr Price from Nottingham is delighted with his new upvc lean to conservatory. An area of the patio which wasn’t being used is now a daily part of Mr Price’s life, and its spacious feel gives Mr Price a chance to enjoy his garden all year round.
Another happy customer for Extend a Room!
