Mr and Mrs Young are a retired couple from Grays in London. They wanted to increase the size of their property, and enjoy the views over their sunny back garden and carp pond. This beautiful new rosewood upvc lean to conservatory was installed at their home in Grays, London last year.
The challenge

Mr and Mrs Young had already built an extension previously. This almost always presents the challenge that, depending on the property style, their new lean to conservatory might require planning permission. In fact, this was the case, and fortunately the customer had already applied and been granted permission. Although the majority of new sunrooms do not require planning, Extend a Room can easily make all the necessary plans and calculations to prepare the application if required. Having built thousands of lean to conservatories not just locally in Grays, London, but all over the UK, they have the expertise to walk through the planning process with no problem.

There is quite a drop from the ground level of the house to the level of the garden, and the customer had already had raised decking placed in the ideal area where the lean to conservatory was planned. Using traditional building methods, this would normally have needed to be removed before the base works could begin. Think of the mess and expense that would have caused, never mind replacing the decking afterwards! Could Extend a Room come up with a solution which would give them their new sunroom in the place they wanted it, and keep their decking?

The solution

Once again, the company’s unique steel base system comes to the rescue! A careful and thorough site inspection was carried out at the property in Grays, London. The plan was to cut through the decking in order to be able to drop the steel base, pre manufactured to precise measurements in the company’s factory, into the space beneath. The surveyor needed to be looking out for man holes rodding eyes, and gullies, to ensure they were not going to be in the way of the steel sunroom legs. In this way, the decking could remain in situ, without any need for all the pain, hassle and expense of removing and replacing it. Thanks to the company’s super efficient supply chain, building methods and fitters, the base was placed carefully on site, the rosewood frames and French doors were fitted to the frame, and finally the lean to conservatory roof installed – all in one day! All the careful preparation paid off handsomely!

The result

Of the many different styles and shapes of lean to conservatory in Grays, London, Mr and Mrs Young made a choice which was perfect for them. Using one part as a dining room, they can enjoy relaxed meals as they gaze out upon their garden. From the comfort of their lounge suite at the other side of their lean to conservatory, Mr Young can watch his beloved carp in their pond.

The company aims to deliver much more than the customer thought they would receive and in the case of Mr and Mrs Young from Grays in London this most certainly is the case!
