Mr and Mrs Challis from Haverhill in Suffolk live in a delightful bungalow with a well-tended, beautiful south facing garden. They wanted to have more room in their home, and at the same time be able to enjoy the views over their lovely garden. They contacted Extend a Room, and soon were sitting inside this beautiful new lean to conservatory.
The challenge
As always on a bungalow roofed house, the roof height is an issue which needs to be addressed straight away. The traditionally low eaves height can make connecting a conservatory difficult. Extend a Room needed to use the expertise gained from thousands of sunrooms fitted not just locally in Haverhill, Suffolk, but all over the country to establish exactly how the installation of the sunroom was going to take place and crucially, which roof style to install.
The matter of getting the new guttering systems right is most important, because no one wants the misery of leaks into their new lean to conservatory. Guttering and down pipes incorrectly designed or fitted can bring misery with blockages causing water ingress.
Finally, it would have been a crime to mess up any part of the Mr & Mrs Challis’ stunning garden, after all the many hours of work put into it, so the company had to commit to getting the lean to conservatory installed with the absolute minimum of damage.
The solution
Addressing the bungalow roof height, the company decided to use their unique aluminum box gutter system at this site in Haverhill, Suffolk. Specially designed, it allows the lean to conservatory frame height to be the same as the existing property’s ceiling height. It gathers all the rainwater and disperses it evenly to the downpipes, ensuring no worries to the customer.
Next, the sunroom roof pitch had to be at the correct angle to fit snugly under the eaves, and still be attractive to look at and in keeping with the style and proportions of the bungalow.
Extend a Room used their steel block and beam conservatory base system for Mr and Mrs Challis from Haverhill in Suffolk. The ease of installation without the need for lengthy, messy and expensive foundations means that the fitters can be in and out in only a couple of days, and its structural steel stability is perfect for this site.
The dwarf walls were installed onto the steel conservatory base works on site. These are pre-fabricated in the factory by affixing marine ply backing insulation and a brick finish to the outside of strong steel box sections, giving a modern technology twist to a traditional brick façade. The window frames are then installed on the top of these steel boxes.
The result
Mr and Mrs Challis in Suffolk are delighted with the finished product; it is everything they dreamt of. There are many different upvc lean to conservatories but this one is just perfect for this bungalow in Haverhill in Suffolk.
The choice of new golden oak frames and a light buff wall show that not every lean to conservatory has to be in white. By increasing their floor space, the customer has also increased the value of their property. Now Mr & Mrs Challis can sit back and relax in beautiful natural light in their new sunroom, not just in the summer months, but all year round.
