Mr and Mrs Graves from Essex live in a bungalow with a generous garden. They wanted to increase the size of their property with a new upvc lean to conservatory. They contacted Extend a Room, and last year this beautiful new sunroom was installed their home.
The challenge
As with most upvc lean to conservatories, Mr and Mrs Graves from Essex wanted their sunroom to be attached to their bungalow. Typically with bungalows, the low roof pitch creates its own challenges, as it can be difficult to connect the new lean to conservatory to the bungalow.
The drop in floor level from the bungalow to the garden was not satisfactory, so a solution was required to ensure that as one left the lounge to enter the new lean to conservatory, there was no change in floor level at all.
Rainwater drainage is always an issue to be addressed with a conservatory, be it lean to or any other style. Connecting existing older guttering systems to new ones has to be done properly to avoid natural tree debris such as leaves or twigs causing blockages and then leaks into the new sunroom.
The solution
To level the drop between the lounge and the new sunroom, Extend a Room’s steel base system comes into its own. Careful engineering calculations were made at the bungalow in Essex, so that when the steel base was constructed at the company’s factory, the height would be millimetre perfect. Thus, when the new lean to conservatory was installed, its floor would be raised to exactly the same level as rest of the house. This contributes to the sense of flow throughout the house, and helps to integrate the sunroom seamlessly into the home. Soon, it seems the lean to conservatory has always been there!
The rainwater from the main roof of the bungalow in Essex needed to be redirected around the conservatory. This is achieved by means of the company’s unique aluminium box gutter system, which was specially designed for this kind of installation. The deep flow aluminium box gutter allows the roof pitch on the new conservatory to be raised, and the water to run through the deep flow gutters to the down pipe from the main property.
All of Extend a Room’s lean to conservatories in Essex are designed to be installed with deep flow gutters. These can accommodate a huge amount of rainwater, which is then re-routed to the main down pipes and gullies on the existing house.
The result
There are many different styles of upvc conservatories in Essex, but Mr and Mrs Graves are delighted with their finished lean to conservatory. Cleverly created in a previously unused part of the garden, the sunroom is now the focal point of their home. The inclusion of a glass roof really maximises the natural sunlight, and even benefits the lounge inside the bungalow with its warm glow. Fitted in only two days for a very reasonable price, Mr and Mrs Graves not only have a beautiful sunroom to relax in, but they’ve added value to their bungalow as well.
