Mr Box from Bude in Cornwall was looking to gain some much needed extra space at his property. He contacted Extend a Room, and had this small lean to conservatory porch installed to the rear of his house.
The challenge
There was no access around the sides of Mr Box’s property at all, so that meant that every individual part of the sunroom and all the building materials would have to be carried through the narrow hallway and doors of the house. Great care would have to be taken not to damage anything as deliveries were brought through to the rear.
Mr Box’s modest property would have been dwarfed by a large conservatory, and he had a clear idea of the smaller porch style conservatory that he wanted. His dream was to be able to sit comfortably all year round and admire his garden from his little sunroom.
His house had a low eaves height, which can create problems regarding fitting the roof onto the new lean to conservatory porch, and still maintaining a decent frame height. The solution

The company’s unique super strong steel base is manufactured at the factory to the exact measurements taken at the site survey, then packed in bar lengths of steel to be transported through the house and to the site beyond. The single frame system for the sunroom walls was ideal for Mr Box, again allowing the items to be taken through his house with ease. Once on site, the fitters had the steel base down, frames fitted on, and finally the roof installed in no time at all. The door was fitted to one side, so that the room would not be used like a corridor to get to the garden.
As a bonus, the rainwater from the roof has been directed into a water butt from where it can be drained to water the garden. As everyone knows who lives in an area with hosepipe bans, this is a real benefit, not just to the garden, but to the pocket as well!
The result
This charming little lean to conservatory is just the ticket for Mr Box at his home in Bude, Cornwall. He can enjoy his garden from the comfort of an easy chair, cosy in his conservatory porch with his dog at his feet. All year round he has a haven he can retire to and relax in – whatever the weather.
