Ron Newman, a Civil Engineer from Tolworth, was looking to improve his property with conservatory, and earlier this year an Edwardian conservatory was fitted at his home which he shares with his family in Tolworth.
The challenge
A common challenge when constructing an Edwardian conservatory is making sure it can happily co-exist with many different garden shapes and sizes. As with all conservatories, Ron wanted his Edwardian conservatory connected to the house, but due to the size and shape of the garden, Ron’s Edwardian conservatory was built in a corner, leading to additional challenges.
Ron’s isn’t the only Edwardian conservatory in Tolworth, but many other Edwardian conservatories that are built against two walls have water drainage issues, caused by water from two connecting roofs running down and onto the Edwardian conservatory roof, often causing leaks and drips.
Our challenge was to build Ron’s Edwardian conservatory and manage how water drains from both the house and the Edwardian conservatory roofs.
The solution
Rain water that runs over a roof can be very unpredictable. The smallest amount of natural litter on an Edwardian conservatory roof such as a build up of leaves or small twigs and branches will change the direction of water, leading to drainage issues. Without proper drainage features put in place, this can lead to leaks in between the roof and the connecting property as well as water pouring from the roof onto the garden.
To combat this, we incorporated our very own box gutter system. This system has been incredibly popular in many Edwardian conservatories in Tolworth, as well as over the UK. Our system linked the existing guttering system on Ron’s property, with the new system on Ron’s Edwardian conservatory, taking water from each roof down through one singular gutter, minimising leaks and maximising drainage capabilities.
The result
There are many different Edwardian conservatories in Tolworth, but Ron is extremely happy with his. A small corner of his garden which hadn’t been used before now is now the focal point of the home and an additional room which Ron can enjoy with his family in Tolworth all year round. This Edwardian conservatory means that Ron and his family now have an additional room in their home, inevitably increasing property value, and they are making full use of a corner of their garden which they had previously left unused.
The design choices that Ron has made for his fantastic Edwardian conservatory in Tolworth really bring the room to life. Ron and his family wanted the side walls to be glazed from the floor, allowing the light to fill the room from every angle. This gives Ron’s Edwardian conservatory in Tolworth a bright and airy feeling, allowing the feel of the garden and the great outdoors to come into their family home. This spacious feel gives Ron and his family a chance to enjoy the garden all year round from the comfort of their Edwardian conservatory.
But it’s the clever box gutter system that is the true star of Ron’s Edwardian conservatory in Tolworth. It means that come rain or shine, sleet or snow, Ron and his family will be warm and dry inside their delightful Edwardian conservatory in Tolworth.
