Mr & Mrs Mansford, a retired couple, had recently moved home. They wanted a new conservatory to extend and improve their new bungalow in London.
The challenge
The challenge with this site was that the rear of their property in London did not provide an adequate position for the size and shape of the sunroom that Mr & Mrs Mansford wanted. Each conservatory is custom built for the unique site that it’s going to be placed in, but occasionally the dimensions, drainage or overlooking aspects of the site can rule out positions that might have seemed suitable for a sunroom.
Bungalow properties do bring their own problems to conservatory design because of their relatively low walls and ceilings. This can be addressed at the design stage.
The solution
After several site visits and discussions with Mr & Mrs Mansfield, we all agreed that the best area for their upvc conservatory was to the side of the property in London. This was an option that the couple hadn’t considered before, but they were happy to rely on the expert opinion of the Extend a Room surveyors, with their years spent designing thousands of conservatories.
Having decided to site the sunroom to the side of the house, Extend a Room quickly brought the whole project to life with dwarf walls, and a hipped lean to conservatory roof design. In this way the width and height restrictions presented by the bungalow were overcome. With the insertion of some upvc panels, the sunroom has an element of privacy that is very welcome.
Anticipating potential water leakages, our lean to conservatories in London are all designed to be installed with deep flow gutters. These can take a massive amount of water, which is then re-routed to the main down pipes and gullies on the existing house. This minimises any water leakage through the roof of the sunroom in London.
The result
This beautiful hipped corner lean to conservatory with dwarf walls and panels is just the ticket for Mr & Mrs Mansford, and they are delighted with the finished product. It occupies a previously unused area to the side of the property, and gets plenty of delightful sun light through the glass roof. It is used daily as a dining room and a sitting room, and has added to the customers’ enjoyment of their retirement.
