Mr and Mrs Yendell from Worcester Park in Surrey share their home with their married son. They contacted Extend a Room with an intriguing proposition. They wanted to have a conservatory for each half of the family, with their own separate doors leading in from the garden. Was it possible?
The challenge
The design team at Extend a Room got their thinking caps on. Was it even possible to give Mr and Mrs Yendell the conservatory that they wanted?
The company’s surveyors carried out a careful site inspection at the house in Worcester Park in Surrey. Due to its shape, there was in fact an area which might be suitable. Two walls of the house were at right angles to each other. Could a sunroom be fitted into the space created by these two walls? Fitting conservatories in the space created by two walls can be tricky; old walls are rarely straight and true. This can raise the prospect of leakages, either where the new sunroom joins the house, or when considering the rainwater drainage.
The solution
After trialling various scenarios, the design team came up with a plan in conjunction with the customer. There was to be an Edwardian conservatory installed along one wall of the property, and it would be connected to a upvc lean to conservatory on the other wall. The result would in effect be one large L-shaped conservatory at the rear of the property in Worcester Park, Surrey. However, the plan cleverly allowed the two sunrooms to be separate from each other, by using a room divider constructed from upvc wall frames with white panels for privacy. Within the divider, the company fitted an External upvc Police approved door. Mr and Mrs Yendell and their family chose this option for increased security. In this way, one half of the property is not accessible from the other without the door being unlocked.
Using the company’s specially designed aluminium box gutter, the rainwater can drain from the two roofs of each conservatory guttering and into the drainage system of the property without any fear of leaks.
The result
It’s fair to say that of the many different styles of conservatory in Worcester Park in Surrey, Mr and Mrs Yendell’s must be unique! The whole family is very happy with the sunroom, which was designed specially for them. Using the expertise gained from fitting many thousands of conservatories all over the UK, Extend a Room have helped this family make their dream come true.
