Mr and Mrs Calcroft from Truro in Cornwall wanted to extend their bungalow with a bespoke upvc Edwardian conservatory.
The challenge
The first problem encountered at this site in Truro, Cornwall was obvious. The ideal spot in the garden for the Edwardian conservatory was at a higher level than the bungalow! This would be addressed by digging out the area until the ground was level with the house, so that the Extend a Room unique sunroom steel base could be laid.
The common technical challenge with a bungalow is the low eaves height. This needs to be considered when calculating the height of the new conservatory frames. Obviously the customer wants the conservatory to be as tall as possible to create a light and airy feeling to the new sunroom. The company needed to use all the expertise it has gained over the years fitting conservatories not just locally in Truro, Cornwall, but all over the UK, to come up with a plan to suit Mr and Mrs Calcroft.
Connecting an Edwardian conservatory roof to a bungalow needs to be planned for very carefully, to avoid the typical problems of leakages encountered when an existing drainage system is joined to the new one from the new roof. The designer had to come up with a reliable system to deal with the rainwater drainage effectively.
The solution
Even allowing for the removal of the excess soil from the raised garden, this beautiful Edwardian conservatory was installed in only 2 days. This was only possible because the company used its unique super strong conservatory steel base system at the property in Truro, Cornwall. It entirely removes the need for costly, messy and time consuming old fashioned strip foundations.
The singular upvc conservatory steel frames were matched to be exactly the same height as the existing property. This important design touch contributes to a subtle blending impression between the new and older structures, making the Edwardian conservatory look as though it was designed at the same time as the house. The frames are floor to roof glass with no dwarf wall, really giving the sunroom the entire benefit of its position overlooking the garden.
Finally, the company used its upvc aluminium box gutter to address the problem of rainwater drainage. Specifically designed to combat the situation when a new roof joins an existing one, it caters for the increased rainwater flow and the possibility of natural debris forming in the guttering. The company uses this system on nearly all its sunroom installations. It’s just the ticket for a leak free conservatory!
The result
Looking at their new Edwardian conservatory, with its lofty vaulted conservatory roof, high frame heights and generous proportions, Mr and Mrs Calcroft can be assured that of all the many designs of sunroom in Truro, Cornwall, theirs is unique. Designed especially for them, and using the very latest building techniques, it’s a stunning addition to their home.
Now they can enjoy the marvellous natural sunlight in luxurious comfort as they relax together, or enjoy a family meal at the table with the peace of the garden beyond.
