Mr Samauroo has a Nursing Home business in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. He wanted to increase its size by creating a large new dining room and day living area to make all the elderly residents’ days a lot brighter. Early last year, Extend a Room installed this beautiful new Edwardian conservatory at the site in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.
The Challenge

TThis was a challenging site indeed, with a first floor balcony needing to be removed to allow for the vaulted and spacious Edwardian conservatory roof to be installed.

2 new doorways were required to allow safe and comfortable access and exit to the new dining and living area inside the sunroom.

In common with other commercial properties, the company needed to avoid any upheaval, as much as possible. Mr Samauroo did not want his residents to be disturbed in the slightest by any works being carried out to the rear of his Nursing Home in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

The area put aside for this new upvc bespoke conservatory had so many challenges, with the walls all being at different levels. It was more like a jig saw than an installation!

Finally, the ground levels where the Edwardian conservatory needed to be were all uneven, both from front to back and from left to right.

The Solution

Initially the site at Scarborough North Yorkshire needed to be cleared of existing trees and shrubs. This had to be done with care, with all debris being removed as soon as possible so as to keep a safe, tidy and clean site. The balcony was quickly disposed of, and then the fitters tackled the two new door openings, inserting new lintels above as required for strength and stability.

Because the company uses its modern new steel base system for all of its conservatories, not just the Edwardian, the need for lengthy (and costly!) excavations is removed, and the installation time for the sunroom on site can be kept to a minimum. The steel base is entirely made to measure in the company’s factory. The steel base can be built to varying heights, accommodating the uneven sloping ground found at this site. The immense strength of steel in the conservatory base ensures complete stability and fortitude.

The walls then needed to be surveyed with millimetre precision for the conservatory roofs components to all join together, with the roof being hand cut back in the factory.

The company then needed to look at the rainwater drainage issues between the Nursing Home and the Edwardian conservatory. They used their unique aluminium box gutter system, which allows the water from the sunroom roof to be collected and drain away without any leakage into the Edwardian conservatory.

The Result

Seen now after the finishing touches of decking, steps and ramps have all been fitted by the company, this new beautiful new upvc Edwardian conservatory is stunning in its setting. It provides a delightful new area full of natural light for the residents to enjoy their meals as they look out onto the peace and quiet of the garden at the Nursing Home in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Mr Samauroo is delighted with the finished sunroom which has made his idea a reality, and as a bonus he has added value to his business, too.
