Mr and Mrs Gibbons and their family in East Sussex, were unusual customers for Extend a Room. There aren’t many who already have an Extend a Room conservatory, and then decide to increase its size! They had had an upvc Edwardian dwarf walled conservatory installed a few years ago. Now, they wanted to further extend their property, and were interested in a lean to design second time around.
The challenge
The challenge at this site in East Sussex was a technical one; could the existing Edwardian conservatory be connected to the proposed new lean to sunroom? It was an interesting problem for the company’s surveyors and designers.
Additionally, it looked as though there might be real difficulties presented by drainage of two differing yet connected conservatory roofs, since they are at completely different angles. Any natural debris like leaves, twigs or blossom could potentially create a blockage which might allow rain water to flood through into the new conservatory.
The solution
Very precise and careful measurements and plans were drawn up by the company’s surveyors during site visits to the Gibbons’ home in East Sussex. There was no room for error in the connection of these two sunrooms.
The company also needed to ensure that the new steel base works and dwarf wall system lined up exactly with the older existing Edwardian conservatory. There must be no difference at all in the floor levels. When a floor is even just a few millimetres off level, it is immediately apparent.
Joining at roof level also needed a special and creative solution; the company uses its specifically designed Aluminium box gutter system for upvc conservatories to ensure there will be no rainwater leakage or drainage problems. Thus the rainwater is collected from all points on the two sunroom roofs, and dispersed cleanly down the conservatories’ downpipes.
The result
There are many different styles of conservatory and sunroom in East Sussex but the Gibbons’ conservatory is quite exceptional. Joining an Edwardian conservatory and a lean to conservatory together perfectly has brought happiness to everyone. It is truly stunning to look at and has created a magnificent new living area. Not only that, it has also increased the property’s value.
Extend a Room aims to deliver much more than the customer expects to receive and in this case everyone has been delighted.
